By Ross Williams, Contributing Editor

London is one of the most well-known cities in the world and visitors here will find it difficult to refrain from becoming hypnotized by its historical beauty that is delicately layered with bright modern attractions. There are several airports that serve this great city and when looking at cheap flights to London the one you choose will have a big impact on the overall price.

The Airports

All the major airlines and many of the smaller ones will have routes that serve one or more of London’s airports. Heathrow and Gatwick are the two major airports here, but the latter receives only a handful of budget airlines. You will need to bear this in mind when you are booking your flight as the price you pay will be dependent on the airline and which airport it will arrive at. For short haul flights from around Europe it is possible to get cheap flights to London that will arrive at either Gatwick or Heathrow. International flights usually head to Heathrow.

Tip for International Travelers

International travelers may not be able to take advantage of the low cost fares available on the budget carriers that mainly serve countries in Europe. In order to get the lowest fares you will need to be flexible and possibly look at flights which do not go directly to London. One example would be for US travelers to look at options going from Canada where the flights a generally cheaper and the exchange rate might also help.

Pick Your Days Carefully

It is tempting to want to travel to London at the weekend or during other peak periods thinking that this is when all the action happens. The truth is that London can be enjoyed at any time of the week. This means that you can take advantage of the cheap midweek flights and save big. THE END
